DictaNet Case Study
Jackson Barrett & Gass (website) a Wilmslow based private client law firm has invested in DictaNet technology from BDF Solutions. After an initial consultation meeting, Principal of the firm Sean Barrow opted for a DictaNet/Dragon Workplace combination.
Mr Barrow - “The accuracy of the Dragon speech-recognition is excellent - almost 100% ... Using the Philips SpeechMike microphone connected to my notebook PC I am able to dictate at my usual pace and see the document constructed straight away.”
Following document composition, DictaNet software is used to route the recorded audio file and speech-recognised text to Mr Barrow’s secretary Julie Greatorex.
Ms Greatorex - “My role is changing; I no longer transcribe lengthy micro cassette dictations. Most documents received from Sean are almost complete. I merely provide quality assurance, changing the odd word that needs correction and applying formatting – the time this saves is incredible.”
On longer documents, Mr Barrow often switches to the standard DictaNet software, enabling the composition of clear, edited digital dictation files to be forwarded to Ms Greatorex for transcription.
“There’s no more messing about with cassettes - the DictaNet digital dictations are delivered to my computer in a prioritised order. I use similar foot pedals to the ones that were connected to my tape machine to playback, forward and rewind the dictations ... We no longer worry about tapes getting lost or broken – the thought of ever returning to my old tape cassette system fills me with dread!”
Following an initial trial installation Mr Barrow is now planning an expansion of the DictaNet system to other partners. “As a relatively small practice we had considered digital dictation as a technology only suited to larger firms ... Implementing DictaNet technology has shown us that even smaller practices can instantly see productivity and efficiency benefits. Turning the business of text production into a fast, efficient process and maximising the flexibility of our secretarial resource.”
